Amazon Fire 7 Tablet
Amazon on Wednesday announced the latest version of its Fire 7 tablet. At $ 59.99, the tablet is a bit more expensive than its predecessor, but the company promises a longer battery life.
Amazon’s Fire Tablets have served as a cheaper alternative to Apple’s iPad, but it’s not as big a business segment for Amazon as Apple’s hardware. Instead, Amazon’s hardware products serve as a gateway to Amazon’s ecosystem services, such as Alexa Voice assistant and music, books and apps.
The latest version of the Fire 7 did not have great battery life and the screen and camera were not very sharp. Amazon says the new model’s battery life is 40% longer, up to 10 hours for browsing, but it hasn’t changed the display or camera.
The updated Fire 7 has a 30% faster processor that will help make the tablet feel more responsive, Amazon said. It will also carry 16GB of storage in the base version, which is probably fine for most people who need a budget tablet for browsing and downloading some movies, although you can expand the storage by adding your own memory card. It replaces a dated charging port for a newer and more common USB-C port.
The new Fire 7 is available for pre-order from Wednesday and shipping will start from June 29 It comes in black, denim and rose colors, with adjustable covers priced at 28.99 each.
Amazon has also launched a new version of Fire 7 Kids, with a “kid-proof” case (in red, blue or purple) that comes with one year of Amazon Kids +. The device starts at 109.99 and is available from June 29.
